UTI, Yeast Infection or BV? Heal Naturally
Are you experiencing discomfort, burning, itching, or strange discharge, but not sure what’s causing it? You want relief, but also answers.
In this post, I’ll explain the differences between UTIs, yeast infections, and bacterial vaginosis (BV), how to tell them apart, and, most importantly, how to support your body’s healing process using natural methods.
How to tell the difference
It’s not always easy to tell what’s going on “down there”, especially if you’ve had more than one type of infection before. But tuning into your body’s signals helps.
UTI
“My symptoms were awful: pain, more pain, constant peeing, burning agony.”
UTIs usually come with burning or stinging when you pee, a frequent urge to urinate (even if little comes out), pressure or cramping in the lower abdomen, and sometimes cloudy or smelly urine. Pain is often sharp and can come on suddenly.
Yeast infection
“I had a yeast infection for years and didn’t know it. The only symptom was occasional itching and redness.”
Yeast infections are more likely if you have intense itching, thick white discharge that looks like cottage cheese, redness, and swelling of the vulva. There’s often no strong smell, but the itch can feel maddening.
Bacterial vaginosis (BV)
“BV snuck up on me. It wasn’t painful, just this constant ‘off’ feeling and a fishy smell after sex.”
BV tends to come with a fishy or sour odor, especially after sex, plus thin greyish or milky discharge. There’s usually not much itching or pain, but it feels strange and may return after antibiotic treatment.
Keep in mind, it’s also possible to have more than one issue going on at once, especially if your vaginal microbiome is out of balance or you have a more systemic problem such as a compromised immune system.
That’s why addressing the root cause, rather than just treating the surface symptoms, makes all the difference.

Natural remedies to help yourself
You don’t need to keep cycling through antibiotics, antifungals, or harsh creams. Your body is wise, and it wants to heal.
Natural methods support the body’s self-healing mechanisms, instead of overriding them.
Reminder: Always tailor homeopathic remedies to your unique symptoms. That’s the power of homeopathy, and how you get the best results.
URINARY TRACT INFECTION
- Homeopathic remedies for acute pain and discomfort: Cantharis for a general, burning kind of UTI, Staphisagria for UTI after sex, and Apis for severe burning and when symptoms feel worse for heat in any form.
- Antibacterial herbs such as Oregano oil, Goldenseal and Uva Ursi taken daily for a few weeks can help clear bacteria from the bladder.
- Keep hydrated by drinking water and unsweetened liquids such as herbal tea.
- Make a soothing bladder flush tea (choose from marshmallow root, horse tail, corn silk and nettle).

YEAST INFECTION
- Homeopathy support: Borax is indicated when the discharge is thin and may feel like warm water coming out, or Sulphur is a good option if you have intense itching, burning and smelly, yellow-ish discharge. Other remedies include Calc Carb, Pulsatilla, Sepia, Natrum Mur and Kali Carb.
- Reduce the consumption of refined sugar, processed foods + alcohol.
- Garlic therapy: garlic contains allicin which helps fight fungal infections. You can eat raw garlic (mix it into food), or you can even insert a garlic clove into the vagina for 4 to 6 hours. Put a thread through the clove using a sewing needle, to make it easier to remove it afterwards. Garlic is strong so some irritation is possible.
- Probiotics: beneficial lactobacillus bacteria live in the vagina naturally, maintaining healthy conditions. In yeast infection, the balance is disturbed. So, taking lactobacillus probiotics orally, or even vaginally can help reduce your symptoms.
- Antifungal herbs: Goldenseal and Berberis Vulgaris contain berberine, a substance that fights bacteria and enhances your immune system.
BACTERIAL VAGINOSIS
- Homeopathic remedies: Sepia, Merc Sol, Natrum Mur, Kreosutum and Pulsatilla are often indicated. Choose one that matches your symptoms.
- Support vaginal flora with lactobacillus probiotics, either orally or vaginally.
- Gentle vaginal rinses (make sure to dilute with plenty of water) with apple cider vinegar or hydrogen peroxide can help kill unwanted bacteria.
- Garlic therapy can help with BV too, as described above for yeast infections.
- Tea tree oil is antibacterial and can help with symptoms if used with carrier oil (such as coconut oil) and applied to the vagina area. Make sure it is properly diluted, to avoid strong reactions.
Repeated infections? How to end the painful cycle
Chronic symptoms are your body’s way of asking for deeper care, not just quick fixes.
So, if you are having repeated infections and nothing seems to be helping, perhaps your body is asking for a different kind of attention.
Your symptoms are information, not something to silence. They’re telling us where to look.
In homeopathy, your unique symptoms will guide us to the right remedies, and deep healing can take place. There are no fixed protocols or one-size-fits-all approaches.
Even if you’ve struggled for years, healing can still begin today.
In you, there is a deeper story worth listening to.
