UTI and BV: two problems, one solution

Heal UTI and BV naturally

Did you know that women with bacterial vaginosis (BV) are up to 13 times more likely to develop a UTI?

The continuous burning sensation you feel, like you’ve sat on an ant’s nest, can be a sign of both BV and UTI.

So, how can you tell the difference? And how to treat them naturally, to soothe your symptoms?

Homeopathy offers a safe and non-toxic approach that allows you to manage and prevent two problems with a single solution. And without further compromising your microbiome.

Burning sensation: how to tell what’s causing it

Symptoms often overlap, so it can be tricky to tell the difference between UTI, BV and yeast infection.

  • UTI = you often feel burning or stinging when peeing, and an urgency to pee.
  • BV = vaginal burning, unpleasant odour and thin grey/milky discharge are common signs.
  • Yeast = often comes with vaginal itching and irritation, and white/clotted discharge.

It’s good to note that you can have two or even all three at the same time. As you probably know, you may develop BV or yeast after taking antibiotics for a UTI. Or, develop a UTI because of ongoing BV and microbiome imbalance.

This is why treating the root cause and going a bit deeper than what antibiotics can do should give you better results overall.

Your partner can affect your vaginal health

BV can be passed through intercourse as your partner can transmit BV-associated germs (such as Gardnerella vaginalis) to you.

Also, semen is naturally slightly alkaline, and the vagina is naturally acidic, so semen can impact the pH levels in your vagina.

This can lead to an imbalance in the natural microbiome and cause higher levels of harmful bacteria (= BV likelihood increases).

Using condoms can be helpful until the infection is cleared or as a long-term solution.

Ureaplasma: a lesser-known cause of UTIs and BVs

Ureaplasma is a bacteria part of the human microbiome and found in many healthy women. However, it can be passed via sexual contact.

In general, it’s considered harmless.

However, even harmless bacteria can cause issues when there is too much of it. It’s all about the balance.

When the levels of ureaplasma are overly high, it can cause a UTI. But it’s often missed in standard tests, so general awareness around it is still low.

Also, ureaplasma is linked to BV symptoms. And this makes sense because high ureaplasma is caused by microbiome imbalance, the same as BV.

The good news is that regardless of what’s causing your symptoms, your condition can be treated with homeopathy because your unique symptoms guide the remedy selection, so the diagnosis is less important.

Stuck in the UTI – antibiotics – BV loop? Find your exit

The cycle of repeated UTIs, antibiotics and BV (with compromised microbiome) can feel like a never-ending story sometimes.

You fix one problem and end up with another, or more of the same. It’s tough.

This is how I would approach a combined BV and UTI treatment:

  • Detoxing and clearing previous antibiotics and medications
  • Rebuilding a healthy and diverse microbiome to ease symptoms
  • Supporting detox pathways (liver, bowels, kidneys, bladder, lymph)
  • Homeopathic acute remedies to manage pain and discomfort quickly and effectively
  • Constitutional homeopathic treatment to solve the root cause, to prevent future infections and make you stronger and more resilient on all levels
  • Using homeopathic remedies as a prophylaxis after intimacy – shown to prevent infections that are triggered by intercourse
  • Selecting anti-microbial, detoxing, cleansing, and healing herbal tinctures and supplements to act as building blocks when you rebuild your immune and microbiome health

Homeopathic approach: focus on the whole person for lasting results

My approach in homeopathy and holistic health is that I look for the bigger picture.

Your symptoms may be UTI and BV, but your unique experience, personal history and circumstances will tell me what remedies are best for you.

This is how we get the most impactful and lasting results, too.

After all, homeopathy is a highly individualised medicine, so the treatment plan is uniquely made for you.

Not sure where to start?

Feel free to contact me to discuss your situation. I’ll give you my honest opinion on whether I can help you.

Treat the root cause and solve both problems.
